Disappearing Nut Bars

Easy for kids to assemble and a house favorite.  This is my take on the magic bars so often found at bake sales and school events.  Coming up to the end of August starts me thinking of ways to help out the school, but avoid all day baking events, since our schedule gets packed in the Fall.  These bars can be done very quickly, are great for block parties and day trips, as well as fundraising bake sales.  Always a crowd pleaser.

Ingredients:

1 tbsp soft butter for greasing the pan

12 graham crackers crushed

1 tsp vanilla

1 stick, 1 tbsp melted butter

1 cup sweetened shredded coconut

1/2 cup white chocolate chips

1/2 cup butterscotch chocolate chips

1 cup dark chocolate chips

1 cup milk chocolate chips

1 1/2 cup walnuts chopped finely

1/2 cup pecans or almonds chopped finely

1 can of sweetened condensed milk (14 oz)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees, grease a 9 “X 9” glass pan with the softened butter.  Crush the graham crackers in a Cuisinart until it is fine powder.  Mix in the melted butter and vanilla until incorporated, and then press into the bottom of the pan.

Everything else is layered in order of the list above:  First make a layer of coconut, then evenly layer the different types of chips and lastly the nuts.  Top off the bars by pouring the condensed milk evenly over the top.

Bake for 30 minutes, or until the milk is bubbling and browned around the edges.  Let cool and then cut into squares when ready to serve.
