Primary Color Shake

My son invented this shake; he is very creative and artistic and loves fruits!  I have many fantastic shakes in my arsenal, and this is one of the best.

Ingredients:

2 bananas (very ripe)

1/2 cup of blueberries (frozen or fresh….I freeze a ton of them when they are in season, since the price really jumps the rest of the year!)

6-8 cut strawberries cleaned and trimmed (fresh or frozen)

1/2 cup of organic vanilla or banana yogurt or Greek yogurt

1 cup of 1% milk

3 shakes of cinnamon

1 Tablespoon honey

Very Ripe Bananas

Put all ingredients in a blender, if you are using all fresh fruit than add 4 or 5 ice cubes.  Mix with the Ice crush feature for 10 seconds (you will hear the sound change when the cubes have been crushed), and then change to the “mix” or “puree” feature for 10 more seconds.  Serve in glasses with a large strawberry slice with a slit in it so you can hang it on the rim, or use a crazy straw to gain some fun points.  Even add a little whip cream on top and call it dessert!

Secret # 1:  Just about anything tastes good in a shake.   You can hide all manner of healthy items or can get decadent and throw in syrups and cookies and cake.  Really, it is hard to go wrong.

# 2:  Don’t give them ice cream shakes at home for a few years, that way they will believe fruit and yogurt shakes are the bomb!

# 3:  If the fruit you use is sour like raspberries, make sure to add a bit of honey or splash of sweet juice in the mix to counteract the sourness.   When we have “Green Machine” or “Blue Machine” in the house we add those to shakes for added flavor and nutrition.

# 4:  Experiment and encourage your kids to invent new shakes as well!
