Kids can easily help make these and they love to eat them as well. I made these for a party one time and they went so fast I was amazed! For such little work the rewards are great with this recipe.
Ingredients:
1 package of puff pastry sheets (contains 2 sheets)
1 egg
1 tbsp milk
1 cup freshly grated parmigiano reggiano cheese
1 cup freshly grated emmentaler cheese
1 tsp garlic salt
1/2 tsp dried thyme
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Thaw the puff pastry per package instructions. Roll out the sheets on a floured board to rectangles 12 by 10 inches. Beat the egg with the milk then brush both sheets evenly with the egg wash just on the top side. Sprinkle the cheeses, thyme and garlic salt evenly over both sheets. Gently press the toppings into the pastry using your floured rolling pin.
Use a pizza cutter and cut the sheets into 1 1/2 inch thick sticks, then cut those in half the long way. Twist the sticks and then lay them onto parchment covered cookies sheets. Cook for 10-15 minutes. I serve them while they are still a bit hot and the guests will go wild! If you have some leftover, warm them in a microwave 10 seconds for 1 stick, 20 seconds to warm a few at once. They are very tasty warm.
You don’t need any dipping sauce, but if you want to provide the option, quick tomato sauce would work well!
